Indiana Jones and the Dumspter Fire of Destiny: The Fall of the Summer Blockbuster

After watching 'Indiana Jones and the Dumpster Fire of Destiny' it got me thinking about what's happening to the movie industry, or specifically the movie star. The decline of the blockbuster movie isn't news to anyone who's been awake for the past decade. No longer are we treated to the sight of anxious crowds waiting for the clock to strike midnight on release day. Instead, we now huddle in the darkness of our own homes, bathed in the glow of Netflix or Disney+.

But why the decline? It's simple: movie stars are no longer the dazzling, unattainable figures they once were. Today, with the democratizing power of the internet, they're as accessible as your Uncle Joe's latest Facebook rant.

Through social media, we can catch our favorite A-listers sipping lattes, walking their pets, or even performing the mundane act of grocery shopping. It's as if the man behind the curtain was not only revealed, but he's also offering a live tour of Oz via Instagram Stories. The enigma of their exclusive, star-studded lives that once kept us enchanted and lining up at the box office has been replaced with the dull familiarity of everyday exposure.

Of course, some may argue that this accessibility makes our favorite celebs more relatable. But there's a reason we don't make films about average people doing average things. Who wants to see Ryan Reynolds brushing his teeth? We prefer him in his red latex suit, fighting bad guys with dry wit and an endless supply of bullets. With the exception of Tom Cruise or Keanu Reeves - the characters are the real stars now.

This shift from actors to characters is palpable. We no longer flock to the cinemas to bask in the charisma of an actor; we come to see Iron Man, not Robert Downey Jr. The name on the poster has become less important than the emblem on the superhero’s chest.

Movies, it seems, have been demoted to just another consumable content, falling in line with cat videos and 30-second TikTok dances. It's no longer about the magnetism of the lead actor, but the pull of the story, the intrigue of the character. After all, a good character can withstand multiple actors. James Bond, anyone?

Maybe it's a good thing. Maybe the relentless focus on actors and actresses was detracting from the actual art of cinema – the storytelling, the world-building, the exploration of complex human emotions and relationships. Or maybe we've simply traded one obsession for another, replacing our infatuation with unattainable celebrities with an equally potent obsession with fictional characters.

Either way, it seems like the sun is setting on the era of the movie star. As we squint into the horizon, it's the silhouettes of characters that stand tall, while the figures of the actors fade into the twilight. One can only hope they remember to turn off their Instagram live feed as they exit the stage.

5) The original theme song to the movie Armageddon was slated to be “Standing on the Edge of the Earth” by Cincinnati rock legends Blessid Union of Souls. Fun Fact 1: there is no historical record that #turkey was eaten at the first Thanksgiving. 5 deer were served, shellfish/seafood and "fowl". Some historians think the "fowl" were most likely geese, duck or swan.

Fun Fact 2: "Jingle Bells", originally called "One Horse Open Sleigh", was never intended to be a Christmas song. It is purported to have been first performed for a Thanksgiving church service. Though it's true origins are still a mystery and a highly contested piece of history.

Trump - A Parody of Lump


I've had this idea for a parody in my head now for a few years. However, the lyrics were ever evolving and felt forced. Last week these lyrics came to me in a dream and I wrote them down as soon as I woke up! I recorded, mixed, mastered, filmed and edited this video in a single day.

Regardless of your political views this parody is meant to be apolitical. For the most part I try not to take sides because I'm very centrist. I do think a lot of the hate surrounding the man is a little obsessive and silly, but I can understand why some loath him. 

The only thing I want people to take away from this is a good laugh. I think that is the problem with the world today, people have forgot how to laugh and have fun. So let's start a campaign called "Make America Laugh Again". Trust me, you'll feel better after a good laugh!

Best Guitar Pickups under $14


I was skeptical of buying these. I had a cheap guitar that I was upgrading I didn't want to spend $200 for a set of pickups. Guitar still has the stock pots, which are garbage, that I have yet to change.

I recorded these examples with a Fractal Ax8 into a single channel Audient interface. This is exactly the tones as they came out of my Fractal.

NOW... let me say, I've only played these in a studio setting at this point. I'm very curious to hear how they are in a live setting with actual speakers vs recording direct. I'll plan to take this guitar to a show soon and give them a 'live' test. For now, I would give these 10 stars if possible. More to come!

#Godzilla

Godzilla has always been one of my favorite songs to play live. It's been part of the #OMEB set since day one. When I heard a new #Godzilla movie, #KingofMonsters, was being released this summer I knew it was the right time to record my take on one of my favorite songs.

This is the first song that I've fully recorded using my new #Fractal #AX8. I used the Marshall 800 #34 model with a #RichardFortus impulse for the guitars. You'll notice there is a very subtle low octave double on the leads. The drums were written by me in ACID Pro and ran through Superior Drummer 3 by Toontrack.

Upon finishing the recording I wanted to really expand upon the Japanese speaking that was in the original song. So I message two of my friends in Japan, Masami Hara and Patrick Dills. I gave them three separate 'news reports' to read that would be placed strategically in the song. I'm really pleased with the impact these had on the track. What do you think?


The Godzilla cover art was created by my dear friend, Vincent DePorter. Vincent is a world-renown comic artist who has drawn for DC Comics and most recently Spongebob Comics. The mixing and mastering was done by JR Taylor of Taylor Audio. JR is a gifted engineer/producer who works with many talented artists, most notably Todd Sucherman of STYX. 

The video was created using clips from the old films that I found only using Magix Vegas Pro Suite.

This was such a fun track to put together. About a year ago I reached out to STYX drummer, Todd Sucherman, via social media to ask if he would put drums to my song. June 21st, 2018 I received this picture from Todd saying he had finished tracking my song, Raindancer, with his engineer, JR Taylor. JR also served as engineer for mixing this song and performed the acoustic guitar track in the song. I loved what he added to the track. JR is one of the most talented producers I've ever met. Next came the artwork! I reached out to my good friend, Vincent DePorter. Vincent is a world famous comic artist who is most notably known for his work with DC and Spongebob Comics. His art really captured the feel of the song! Thanks Vince!

The last step of putting this piece together was mastering the track. I wanted to work with someone new and was very impressed with the work Dave Collins did on the most recent Metallica album. Hey all! People know me as the One Man Electrical Band (OMEB) but I also play in a group called, Supertzar - An Evening of Black Sabbath w/ Vinny Appice. So I have to get Tony's tone right.
